A Conversation with Mr. Naeem

Sunrise Group of Companies is one of the fastest growing regional healthcare group in the New York tri-state region. We aim to serve clients nationally in the coming years. Our services revolve around three basic tenets “Diagnosis, Treatment and Prevention”. No one seeking help will ever be denied. The Clinics provide services in the areas of Substance Use Disorder, Psychiatric Treatment Programs, Medication Assisted Therapies, Infectious Disease and Residential care. Sunrise Clinical and Diagnostic laboratories is a top 10 reference laboratory in the State of New Jersey. We offer one of most extensive in-house test panels in the industry. We test Blood and Urine samples for Pathology, Toxicology, Women’s Health (utilizing single swab), FISH, Liquid Biopsy and are getting ready to launch Genomics Testing, both CancerGenomics (CGx) and Pharmacogenomics (PGx) along with a customized Opioid Panel. Sunrise’s residential program operates three boarding homes with two additional facilities under renovation. Sunrise Second Chance Foundation is our philanthropic arm with a particular focus on Prevention Programs for the Youth, our series of self-developed workshops have been approved by local schools with our pilot launching this fall with Irvington School District in New Jersey. Sunrise Group operates on the basis of our principles, high standards, code of conduct, committed employees and our single-minded focus on patient care, which also sets us apart.
It takes a village to raise a child and it takes a team performing optimally to grow and scale up an organization. Our employees are our greatest asset, we hire the best qualified employees for each function, our salaries are above average for the region and we are constantly working to build a company culture that takes ownership for everything we do. Our employees are empowered to take decisions and communicate with respective stakeholders, if a concern is brought to our attention, through our solution focused approach, we assume the responsibility to fix, modify, educate and resolve it. The orientation and training doesn’t stop in a week or a month, we are a dynamic organization and therefore an ongoing process. We hold company-wide training sessions on topics such as improving customer services and client relations, communication etc. and have also launched quarterly town hall meetings.
Healthcare is evolving, Health IT (HIT) has revolutionized how we operate in the last decade and many more advancements are in the works. However, it appears that policy makers, clinicians and medical teams operate in individual silos and there are numerous disconnects that hamper quality of patient care. Take opioids addiction and an individual suffering from substance use disorder with history of long use, the laws and policies provide limited term treatment options and both clinicians and medical teams struggle with providing long-term care towards recovery. Mental health issues often go hand in hand with addictions along with post-care after the programs end. These are lifestyle issues, such environmental factors create a revolving door from treatment to home life to relapse to treatment and so forth. SCS is working on terminating the revolving door through the provision of wrap around services. Personalized medicine was once the future, however it is here now and treatment goes hand in hand with continuity of care. With advancement in interoperable technologies and systems we are sure to see an improvement in quality of care.
Healthcare is very personal to me, we all have experienced loss of a loved one due to delayed detection and thus treatment of cancer, diabetes, heart diseases or other infectious disease. I am proponent of comprehensive and pro-active clinical and diagnostic testing services. Early detection and education is the key to saving lives and improving a survivors chance to have a longer and better quality of life. As you know medicine is both science and art, with Pharmacogenomics (PGx) testing we can alleviate experimentation and provide optimal medication based on an individual’s DNA, for example which opioids could be administered and would be effective in the patients pain management regimen. Thus a patient can eliminate the risk of prolonged use of an opioid and accelerate their recovery process.
Medication Assisted Treatment, Genetic Testing and other specified diagnostic tools can be a critical component of a patient’s treatment plan and may be essential for some however monitoring usage and over-prescribing needs to be controlled and managed. The Medical, Clinical, and community organizations need to unite to provide a comprehensive approach to the person who is struggling with substance use disorders. A patient’s time in treatment should not be measured by the days in a level of care or a treatment provider, instead it should consider the steps taken towards the path of recovery. As an example, thirty years use of Opioids cannot be terminated within sixteen weeks of treatment; it might require a year or more if the patient needs it.
My mission in life is to help others succeed. I practice mentoring and encourage all I interact with to participate in active listening and learning. Do whatever it takes for you to learn - read books, subscribe to trade journals, take classes, attend workshops, reach out to others for guidance and help others when you can. As an organization we are working relentlessly towards our vision to be the “go to healthcare provider”. In 2023 we will add Ambulatory Detox and expand to In-patient Detox Centers in coming years, thus completing the 360 degree patient care in substance use disorder. We will also be expanding our footprint from being a regional lab towards having a national presence for our Diagnostic Laboratory Services. We have just begun, stay in touch.
